We are pleased to announce the launch of an International Interfaith Reading Group on Mysticism in Interfaith Contexts, which will explore this unique subject from insider and outsider perspectives to understand the dynamics and potentialities of interfaith mysticism.
The term βmysticismβ is used in different ways in different traditions, but mystics of all times and faith traditions agree that a common underpinning concept of all religions is the transcendent unity. Despite different outer forms of religions, such as scripture and liturgy, this essential truth shared by most faith communities offers hope for open interfaith dialogue and collaboration.
This reading group suggests that a shared transcendental experience of all mystics is an unrecognised or under-recognised basis for interfaith education and peacebuilding. It opens new venues for scholarly discussions about mysticism and interfaith dialogue, leading to a more genuine expression of tolerance, transformation of lives, and cultivating inner states of tranquillity through respect and wisdom across time and space.
We will meet once a month via Zoom, for an hour, to explore a specific topic offered by an invited speaker, followed by an open discussion.
The Reading Group is open to anyone, and we invite you to register your initial interest below.
Chair of the International Interfaith Advisory Board on Mysticism in Interfaith Contexts: Professor Eitan P. Fishbane, Associate Professor of Jewish Thought at The Jewish Theological Seminary, NY, USA.
