Oxford Interfaith Forum Partakes in the 2024 Ramadan Interfaith Iftar

13 March, 2024

Ramadan is a sacred month in Islam during which Muslims fast from dawn until dusk, breaking their fast at sunset with a joyous meal shared with family and friends. Iftar is the name of the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan at the time of adhan (call to prayer) of the Maghrib prayer (a mandatory Muslim prayer after sunset and before the start of night).

In the spirit of friendship and mutual respect, we were invited to share the Annual Iftar with the theme ‘Peace and Unity’ organised by the Dialogue Society Oxford Branch in partnership with Mansfield College, and Oxford Brookes University.

The event, attended by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey, CBE, FRS, FMedSci and other dignitaries, promoted social cohesion and interfaith understanding by facilitating meaningful conversations, and a shared experience.

We extend a heartfelt gratitude to Mr Mahmut Gunaydin, Director of the Dialogue Society Oxford Branch and Mansfield College for their ongoing commitment to the Annual Community Iftar in Oxford.
