Yashua Bhatti recently completed his DPhil in Philosophical Theology under the supervision of Professor Joel Rasmussen, Professor of Historical and Philosophical Theology at the Faculty of Theology and Religion, Director of the Centre for Theology and Modern European Thought at the University of Oxford, and Fellow of Mansfield College, Oxford. His second supervisor was Professor Johannes Zachhuber, Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology at the Faculty of Theology and Religion of the University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Trinity College, Oxford. Yashua’s thesis, Hellenism and Productivity in the Early Schelling, presents a novel portrait of F.W.J. von Schelling as a German Hellene, who, under the spell of Johann J. Winckelmann, engaged deeply and directly with Ancient Greek texts.

Yashua currently is a Post-Award Visitor at the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford, and a Fellow of the Oxford Interfaith Forum. He has taught Greek, Latin, and a variety of theology courses for the Oxford University Faculty of Classics, and for the Faculty of Theology and Religion.

Yashua served as an editor of Oxford’s Paul and Patristics Database funded by The John Fell Fund, University of Oxford, and Junior Dean of Mansfield College. He earned his BA from Brown University and Master of Theological Studies (MTS) from Harvard University.

Yashua’s research focuses on late 18th and 19th century German thought, specifically, intersections of philosophy and religion, and the reception of Greek antiquity. His interests extend also to the Septuagint and Jewish Hellenism. His work has been published in the Review of Metaphysics
