Muhammad Hameem Bin Sheik Alaudin is undertaking his DPhil in the field of medieval English poetics at the Faculty of English, University of Oxford, under the supervision of Professor Simon Horobin. His research looks at poetic form in Middle English and the use of optional alliteration as a device in certain kinds of rhyming biblical verse between the 13th and 15th centuries.

Hameem is broadly interested in the way the writing of religious materials, especially poetry, is an important impulse for the production of vernacular literature in many different cultures and linguistic traditions. As such, he is always keen to learn more about the intersections between language, literature and religion, even though his current doctoral project focuses mainly on English and the British Isles.

Hameem is an Examination Fellow at All Souls College. He also chaired Dr Mohammed Allehbi’s presentation on 29 May 2025, entitled Friends of the Devil: Rebellion and the Construction of Early Islamic Caliphal Sovereignty.
